Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

The first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-American men.

Founded December 4, 1906

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was organized at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, out of the need for close association, mutual support, and collective advancement among Black students during a period of deep racial exclusion.

The Fraternity’s foundation was built on scholarship, fellowship, good character, and the uplifting of humanity. Since its founding, Alpha Phi Alpha has grown into a global brotherhood committed to leadership, academic excellence, service, and advocacy.
